News from the Nurse’s Office
My name is Anna Davis, and I am excited to begin my 17th year providing health services at Hayden Valley Schools. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding your student's health and wellness during the school year.
I am also excited to welcome Calla Manzanares to our health services team. Calla grew up in the Yampa Valley, is a Hayden graduate, and brings valuable experience in orthopedics. She also serves as one of our Hayden coaches.
We are also fortunate to have Kylee Bowman serving as our substitute school nurse this year. Kylee also grew up in the valley and has over 11 years of pediatric nursing experience.
Below are a few important reminders to help ensure all students remain healthy and safe throughout the school year.
Students with a medical condition or ongoing health concern should have an updated Health Care Plan on file. These plans help us provide safe and appropriate care during the school day.
Students who need to take medication during school hours must have the required paperwork completed. Please contact the health office or your school's administrative assistant for the necessary forms.
Hayden Valley Schools is a Nut Aware district. We have students with life-threatening nut allergies. If your child is in a classroom with a student who has a documented nut allergy, we ask that you avoid sending nut-containing products whenever possible.
If your student has a fever of 100°F or higher, please keep them home until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. Students who develop a fever at school will be sent home.
Students who are vomiting or experiencing diarrhea should remain home and may return only after they have been symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
If your student is prescribed antibiotics for a contagious illness, they should remain home until they have been on the medication for at least 24 hours, unless otherwise directed by their healthcare provider.
Students who are sent home because of illness are strongly encouraged not to attend after-school activities, practices, games, or other extracurricular events that day.
Immunization records and exemption documentation are reviewed each school year. Please ensure all required records are submitted before the start of school.
Colorado law requires families requesting a nonmedical exemption from school-required vaccinations to complete the annual CDPHE online education module and submit the completed exemption form each school year. The training is available at: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/nonmedical-exemption-nme#module.
Regular school attendance plays an important role in student learning and academic success.
Help keep our school community healthy by encouraging your child to:
Drink plenty of water.
Eat a balanced diet.
Get adequate sleep.
Wash their hands frequently.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow.
Vision, hearing, and height/weight screenings will be completed for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, 7th grade, and 9th grade.
All 2nd grade students will participate in color vision (color blindness) screening.
Please refer to the district's "When to Keep Your Child Home" guidance for additional information about common illnesses and when it is appropriate for your child to return to school.
We look forward to partnering with you to keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Wishing everyone a wonderful and healthy school year!
