Lewis David “LD” Bowerman
We were able to present this award today to LD's family at our HS Award's Ceremony!
Hayden High School Class of 1954
Lewis David “LD” Bowerman represents the very best of Hayden and what it means to be a Tiger. Raised during the Great Depression, LD learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and resilience early in life. After graduating from Hayden High School in 1954, he began working in the local coal mines, building the foundation for an extraordinary career through determination and grit.
LD spent 38 years with Kiewit Corporation, eventually becoming President of the Underground Construction Worldwide Division. Throughout his career, he led and oversaw major infrastructure projects across the United States and internationally, including serving as the lead engineer on the Eisenhower Tunnel project—one of Colorado’s most significant engineering achievements. His work helped shape tunnels, dams, hydroelectric systems, and transportation projects that continue to serve communities today.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, LD’s life has been defined by service, generosity, and commitment to others. Alongside his wife Mary, whom he married in 1960, he built a strong family and dedicated himself to giving back. His generous support of the Hayden Center and the Alumni Scholarship Fund reflects his deep love for Hayden and his desire to create opportunities for future generations.
LD’s life is guided by the message he often shares:
“The race of life does not go to the swiftest, but to those who persevere… it’s the final lap—the way you finish—that matters. Never give up.”

Transportation Update – Hwy 40 Construction
Dear Families,
We want to make you aware of ongoing road construction on Hwy 40 and how it may impact our bus routes.
At this time, we anticipate delays affecting our route to November. Please be aware that afternoon drop-offs in Milner may run slightly later than usual depending on construction delays. We ask that you continue to arrive at your normal pick-up time, as exact delays may vary day to day.
We are currently working on a plan for our morning route to Milner and how to best adjust to these changes. If your student’s bus stop is directly affected, you will be contacted with specific information.
We appreciate your patience as we navigate this over the next few days and work to find the best solution for our students and families. Please note that if your student arrives late to school due to these bus delays, they will not be marked tardy.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Atentamente,
Sincerely,
